It’s all in the detail…..

Hey everyone,
we have been so busy lately no time to post on this blog ( yet facebook gets a look in every day – go figure!)

Since the last post we have signed the building agreement, parted with a large sum of money (ouch!), and delivered it in person to Masterton Homes (MH)  HQ,  haulling myself and my two little ones all the way out to Warwick Farm on the hottest day of September which would have to be the first decent day we  had coming out of our cold season.

Since signing the agreement we have been told it can take up to 6 weeks for plans to be lodged at council for DA.  Whcto complete the following;                                                         Revised BASIX report (required due to the relocation of bedroom 3 window);
– site analysis plan;
– shadow diagrams;
– erosion & sediment control plan;
– driveway longitudinal profile;
– landscape open space calculation plan;
– bushfire report;
– A4 notification plans;
– landscape plan;
– stormwater drainage plans;
– waste management plan; and
– statement of environmental effects.                                                                                           Which left a little dismayed, there goes my timeline out the window! My biggest learning curve here which I learned very quickly is to just roll with it. I was quite attached to the idea to have plans approved before Xmas so that we could move, demolish and have our pool installed all before every one goes on their 5 week break. But that’s not going to happen. The first week or so I was calling everyone trying to push things along, however I reconsidered this approach realising that this how some seriously big mistakes can happen and we could end up without our Santorini dream….

Plan changes

I’m always looking at our plans admiring them, imagining living in the beautiful spaces we will create in those boxes on paper. One day I was looking at all the windows and thier placement imagining what window coverings I would have and where furniture could be placed when I noticed our highlight window in our upstairs living room was off centre and a very narrow 30cm with only two louvres. Our splash back window in the kitchen was segmented! So had that changed pronto! I wanted a nice uninterrupted pane of glass behind my cooker, I told Alex at Residential Logistics, if it’s going to be segmented it has to be functional so if I cant have  one long plane of glass give me louvres.  I asked why had they uses such these windows  and he told me it was the standard. Unless I specified that was what was used. So a lesson learned there my friends – BE SPECIFIC!

All in good time….

HI all, it’s been AGES since i have posted! We have been so busy with life really.
Since January we have had our plans approved after xmas and we soon moved out that was a story in itself! We had trees lopped, had our demolition sale and then the demolition. Just after this we had our pool installed, excavation of the back yard to meet slab level and retaining walls put up to make sure the boundaries don’t cave in and we have had a heck of a lot of rain!!

Masterton took over the site in early June, so far they have installed the rainwater tank and graded the block for the slab. So now, just waiting for the drainage guys to finish and the slab to go down. will post up pics a bit alter as they have to bve down loaded from the camera!
ciao for now and will post again soon!
with all this sunshine we have been having I hope they get a move on soon No one on site since Tuesday….

OMG! we’ve gone beyond the point of no return!

Just a quick update! We have just, this minute, finally sent the email we have been waiting to send! We have given the go ahead to proceed with Final plans to submit to council! This is it we have committed in writing to 12 months of a roller coaster ride with Masterton homes. Next to sign the building agreement and hand over a large chunk of funds as the deposit. And…. as a result my dear husband is compelled to apply for a second job…. a paper run for the Manly Daily! I let you know if he’s successful!

Nighty night

and the journey begins!

Hello!

So just setting up my Blog today and finished  an intro into the about us page. So have a read!

Since purchasing a cute little cottage, which yes I do love and have furnished  with love and care and  2 years of research, visiting homeworld at Kellyville the Masterton homes village at Warwick Farm countless times and talking to architects, builders, council and others who have taken the plunge in the KDRB caper we have decided on the project home builder, Masterton homes. We have chosen the Santorini,as  it answers most of what’s on our wish list without making too many changes. Which we made a few to accommodate our block, but more about that later.

Right now I would just like to welcome you, our friends and family and other interested parties to our  little blog,   I’ll be back later to post in more detail what stage we’re at and what we have been up to.

Ciao for now

Hello world!

Welcome to Building Santorini our first post, YES! The image is one of the Caldera taken on our Honeymoon in ’07 and we found it quite interesting that house design we have chosen is named after one of the Greek Isalnds we travelled to! Sentimental? Most Definately!
